The Ethereum blockchain hosts more than 1700 decentralized applications (dApps) and it can be overwhelming to navigate them all. Status behaves somewhat like Apple's App Store and Google's Play Store, but then for Ethereum dApps. It is a mobile application that allows users to browse between the Ethereum dApps.
Swiss founders Carl Bennetts and Jarrad Hope launched the Status ICO in June 2017. Since the ICO, Status has added the former Google manager Nabil Nahdy to the team as Chief Operating Officer. Nabil led the Google Maps and Google Flight products while working at Google and brought his experience of developing products with a user base into the billions.
Nabil is responsible for creating the vision, a roadmap and the product itself when it goes from alpha to beta and ultimately the complete release.
Status not only serves as a user interface for Ethereum dApps. It also serves as a messenger app, similar to WhatsApp. You can also send and request ETH with it.
In June 2017 Status raised more than 100 million dollars with their ICO. SNT is a so-called ERC-20 token which means that the platform works on the blockchain of Ethereum. The maximum supply is set at 6.8 billion SNT coins.
