Who is Satoshi Nakamoto?

Who is Satoshi Nakamoto?

The Bitcoin white paper was the report that lighted the fire on the cryptocurrency movement, explaining the vision of a peer-to-peer electronic cash system. Satoshi Nakamoto, a cryptographic pioneer, anonymously wrote the report and showed how digital currencies could challenge the central banks.

But there remains one last question; who is Satoshi Nakamoto?

Is the writer of the white paper a he or a she? Does the name Satoshi Nakamoto represents an individual or a group, or maybe even a company? Where is Satoshi located?

Tremendous efforts have gone into revealing the real identity of Bitcoin's creator. In the past several media outlets have claimed that they have found the real Satoshi Nakomoto. In 2014, Newsweek claimed that a Japenese-American man called Dorian Nakamoto was the Bitcoin founder. In an interview, he claimed to misunderstand the question when the interviewer asked him about Bitcoin. Forbes also established links to Hal Finney, Hal was a cryptographic pioneer who lived next door to Darion Nakamoto.

And the next candidate is; Nick Szabo. A researcher going by the name of Skye Grey dug deep to find unusual turns of sentences and compare the Bitcoin white paper to earlier published work of cryptographers. Skye Grey found some similarities with Nick Szabo, the creator of the BitGold concept in 1998. However, he insists on being Bitcoin creator.

A more sensational candidate is; Elon Musk. He was selected by a Hacker Noon writer highlighting his mastery of the C++ programming and background with PayPal. Once more, the candidate denied any connection with Satoshi.

On the other side, you have people who claim to be Satoshi, Craig Wright, for example. He claims to be the one we should thank for the blockchain technology, as we know it today. Craig even reported a claim of authorship for the Bitcoin white paper to the U.S. Copyright Office. The Bitcoin community isn't so sure about the claims of Craig, with some even claiming it is al a show.

For now, we expect endless discussion on Twitter & Reddit about who wrote, Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System. We may never know the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of the decentralized currency; Bitcoin.
