Lisk is a decentralized, blockchain-based application construction platform that allows developers to come up with, manage, and distribute their own cryptocurrencies and dapps or decentralized blockchain applications. It uses sidechains, which are unique and customizable blockchains that are linked to or operate on the Lisk network.
MoreLisk has Lisk Core, the software used for the network’s implementation, which is also responsible for protocol rules enforcement. Its SDK or software development kit is made up of three components – Lisk Elements, Lisk Framework, and Lisk Commander, and is utilized for creating Lisk Core-compatible decentralized applications.

Lisk actually started as a fork of Crypti, an earlier cryptocurrency based on JavaScript that Oliver Beddows and Mark Kordek created back in 2014. Both Beddows and Kordek left the project later on and developed Lisk in 2016. Their first ICO for Lisk (or LSK) was held the same year. They successfully raised $5.6 million and auctioning about 85% of the protocol’s supply of tokens. The remaining amount was divided among the stakeholders and major platform developers. Lisk has three components. Lisk Elements refers to a set of coding libraries. Lisk Framework is what tracks and manages dapps modules. Lisk Commander allows users and the blockchain to interact. The launching of the Lisk mainnet took place in May 2016. To help manage the funds from investors that traded LSK on exchanges, Beddows and Kordeck established the Lisk Foundation. Community and software development for Lisk is provided by Lightcurve, a for-profit group in Berlin that Beddows and Kordeck also created.
