Bittensor (TAO)

Bittensor is an open-source protocol that powers a decentralized, blockchain-based machine learning network. Machine learning models are collectively trained and rewarded in TAO based on the informational value they contribute to the whole. TAO also provides external access, allowing users to extract information from the network while tailoring activities to their needs. The developers behind the project aim to create a pure market for artificial intelligence, a stimulating environment where consumers and producers can interact in a confidential, open, and transparent context. A crucial technology of Bittensor is the specially developed consensus algorithm called Yuma. This unique system serves as the backbone for the management and security of the Bittensor network. Yuma plays an essential role in distributing AI processing tasks across various computers (nodes), enabling the handling of larger and more complex tasks. This system integrates two algorithms, which are proof-of-work (PoW) and proof-of-stake (PoS), to validate transactions and generate new blocks in the blockchain. Nodes complete computational tasks and receive tokens as a reward for their efforts. What makes Yuma unique is its ability to process machine learning tasks as well. The Bittensor network ensures fairness in all of this through a system where peers assess each other. In this process, models are rewarded in the native cryptocurrency TAO, with the value of the reward based on the value added to the network.
