To access the EOS network, you need EOS tokens. The EOS tokens are the original currency of the EOS.IO blockchain. It was founded in 2018 by Block.one, owned by Brendan Bloomer and Dan Larimer. They did this because they wanted to develop a decentralized platform for creating dApps. This had never been done on such a large scale. The reason they did this on such a large scale was that they wanted to knock their entire competition out of the market. A year later after its foundation, the public was already able to buy EOS coins. You could compare EOS with Ethereum, although the founders of EOS think that their blockchain is a lot better in a number of aspects. This allows users to execute millions of transactions per second at no cost. And that's something Ethereum can't do at the moment.
