Blockchain most sought after skill in 2020

In a report published by LinkedIn, blockchain is to be the most demanded hard skill by companies in 2020. The speed with which blockchain has caught up to other skills becomes apparent in the report, it states:

Last year, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and analytical reasoning led LinkedIn's global list of the most in-demand hard skills. They're all on the list again this year, but a skill we weren't even looking at a year ago – blockchain – tops the list of most in-demand hard skills for 2020.

Researchers analyzed profiles of users being hired at the highest rates and found that blockchain was the skill that popped up most often. The top spot might be a result of the high salaries; employers are willing to pay to people that know how to blockchain.

The report describes blockchain as a technology once associated with the dark world of cryptocurrencies now having transformed into a development ready to solve business problems. Even though there are different opinions regarding the issues blockchain is able to solve, the report argues that the corporate world is expressing its opinion with the amount of hiring. Some of the world's largest companies like IBM, Microsoft, Amazon, Deloitte and JPMorgan Chase are actively attracting blockchain talent. Surprising is that blockchain as a skill was not on the 2019 rankings of LinkedIn. In 2018 however, blockchain developer was the leader in the list of emerging jobs.
